Airing the dirty laundry: Week 6

Examining the Jaguars penalties against the Bears in Week 6.

NFL: Kansas City Chiefs at Denver Broncos Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

As we say goodbye to Sunday, and move on to ‘tell the truth Monday’, many Jaguars fans are left asking a single question about yesterday’s game: how the hell did they actually win? One of the contributing factors was that the Jags were able to cut down significantly on their penalties, accruing a season-low of seven.

While you would still like to see the overall number of penalties reduced, especially the bone-headed ones like the unnecessary roughness on Kelvin Beachum, it is good to see the team take a step in the right direction. When we recapped the penalties from the Colts game, I pondered if the bye week could help the Jags focus in on eliminating penalties, and it seems that may have been the case. Here are the penalties from yesterday’s game against the Bears, courtesy of NFLPenalties.com.

  • Unnecessary Roughness - Jared Odrick - 15 yards
  • False Start - Kelvin Beachum - 5 yards
  • Illegal Contact - Prince Amukumara - 0 yards(offsetting)

  • Offensive Pass Interference - Julius Thomas - 0 yards(declined)
