Jaguars slight underdogs against Texans at home

NFL: Houston Texans at Jacksonville Jaguars Reinhold Matay-USA TODAY Sports

The Jacksonville Jaguars return to EverBank Field on Sunday to take on division rivals the Houston Texans. The game opened with the Jaguars as a one-point underdog, but it seems the betting public doesn’t have much faith in the Jaguars to keep it close and as it stands as I write this, has been bet up a full point, making the Texans now two-point favorites.

Based on how the Jaguars have played the past few weeks, it’s easy to see why the public would be laying the money on the Texans, especially considering what happened the last few times the teams have played.

If you remember, the Jaguars closed out the 2015 season getting embarrassed by Houston on the road and a subsequent MMQB article came out with the Texans coaching staff essentially laughing about how easy it was to game plan for the Jaguars. A lot has changed since then and the Jaguars defense, for the most part, has been much better while the Texans offense is a lot more inconsistent with mediocre at best quarterback play from high priced free agent Brock Osweiler.

Jacksonville hasn’t won at home since December 13th, 2015, so picking up a win against a division opponent could be huge, even with just a 2-6 record as is. The Jaguars are coming off a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs where they probably should have won the game, albeit the Chiefs were without a significant number of key offensive players for all/most of the game. The Jaguars will try to build off the running game they established against Houston this Sunday.
