"Jacksonville is home," Mathis told DetroitLions.com. "Ten years here, I couldn’t ask for anything better. Ten years, playing in front of your high school and middle school friends … it’s amazing."
Mathis, who was originally from Jacksonville, was drafted by Jacksonville with the 39th overall pick in 2003 out of Bethune-Cookman. Mathis had several career highlights with the Jaguars, including two interceptions in a 2008 Wild Card game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Mathis currently holds the Jaguars team records for career interceptions (30) and interceptions returned for touchdowns (3).
