2016 NFL free agency: Patriots players who could be targeted by Jaguars

The Jaguars went hard after a Patriots free agent last spring. Will they do it again this year?

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

The Jacksonville Jaguars need players at nearly every defensive position and depth on offense. The New England Patriots have cornerbacks, safeties, several offensive linemen and running backs going into free agency that they're not going to franchise tag.

Hmmm...

Here's a list of all the Patriots free agents in 2016, according to OverTheCap.com.

Player Position Status Salary
Ryan Wendell C UFA $1,625,000
Tarell Brown CB UFA $1,500,000
Tavon Wilson S UFA $1,054,574
Steven Jackson RB UFA $970,000
LeGarrette Blount RB UFA $865,000
Dane Fletcher ILB UFA $825,000
Dane Gibson WR UFA $825,000
Dekoda Watson OLB UFA $745,000
Akiem Hicks DT UFA $670,100
Sealver Siliga DT RFA $660,000
James Develin RB RFA $660,000
Brian Tyms WR RFA $600,000
Nate Ebner S UFA $549,150
Kevin Hughes TE RFA $510,000
Cameron Fleming LT ERFA $510,000
Josh Boyce WR ERFA $502,500
LaAdrian Waddle LT RFA $498,333
Rufus Johnson OLB ERFA $435,000
Justin Coleman CB ERFA $435,000
Brandon King CB ERFA $435,000

None of these players has as much potential as Devin McCourty did last year. Although LeGarrette Blunt wouldn't be a bad complement to T.J. Yeldon. Akiem Hicks is a good lineman, but he plays along the interior which is one of our few strengths on defense. And the cornerbacks and safeties are special teams guys and backups used rarely.

Ryan Wendell is interesting. Originally an undrafted free agent, he played multiple positions along the offensive line that won the Super Bowl in 2015. He can play guard and center and did well. He'd be a bigger name if he hadn't been placed on injured reserve.
