The Cincinnati Bengals will reportedly be re-signing free agent safety George Iloka for a deal worth just $6 million per season, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. It's a position of need for the Jacksonville Jaguars, and at just $6 million per year, it's strange to see a deal not get done.
per @RapSheet George Iloka deal is expected to be around $6 million per year— Kevin Patra (@kpatra) March 9, 2016
Some can make the case that Iloka was the best safety who was going to become a free agent, and with no tags placed on him he surely heard offers from other teams, so it's puzzling that the Jaguars weren't willing to offer more than the reported $6 million per year that the Bengals are offering.
I'd be surprised if Iloka (who was making just $575,075 last year and certainly outplayed that contract) took a hometown discount, so I'll be very interested to see how that contract is structured if he signs what's being reported.
