In the weeks leading up to the 2016 NFL Draft, many media personalities debated whether the Jaguars would make a selection based on need, or by best overall player available.
To me, it looks like they did both.
Make no mistake -- Jalen Ramsey will be a cornerback for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Ramsey enjoys the ability to play safety as well, but the Jaguars will look to utilize him with his aggressive strengths in mind.
Ramsey's best assets are his size and athleticism. He is able to use his strength as an advantage over receivers, often deploying his length in an effort to gain leverage. Ramsey enjoys an ability to make plays that other defensive backs just can't make -- it's a simple as that.
Placing Ramsey into the Jaguars secondary will provide an immediate boost for a unit that ended the 2015 season in pieces. Ramsey can play in the slot, Ramsey can play outside, hell - Ramsey can even line up at linebacker. It'll be exciting to see what the Jaguars are able to come up with now that they've snatched such a versatile defender.
We'll learn more about Jalen Ramsey's specific role as the Jaguars release more information over the next few days.
For now, know this -- the Jaguars may have just secured the steal of the draft.
