Jaguars sign defensive end Bjoern Werner

The Jaguars have added *another* pass rusher, this time free agent defensive end Bjoern Werner.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed free agent defensive end Bjoern Werner. They've released defensive back Chance Casey to make room on the 90-man roster.

A first-round selection in the 2013 NFL Draft, Werner has played in 38 games with 16 starts in three years with the Indianapolis Colts, including four playoffs games. He has 77 tackles, 6.5 sacks, five passes defensed, two fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble. His best season was 2014 when he finished the season with 51 tackles and four sacks and two passes defensed.

Werner was released by the Colts on March 8, 2016.

He was expected to be a major pass rushing threat for the Colts, but didn't live up to expectations in his three seasons with the team after being moved around along the defensive line and then at outside linebacker. He was a healthy scratch for several games at the end of last year. It's a decent depth signing by the Jaguars. With reportedly no guaranteed money in his contract, there's little (if any) risk of signing Werner and if he comes in and produces on the defensive line, then great.
