Jacksonville Jaguars running back Denard Robinson was found asleep at the wheel after his vehicle went off the road and into a retention pond in the early morning of Sunday, July 3.
According to ActionNewsJax.com, Robinson was behind the wheel of a Chevy Impala submerged in water on the driver's side in a retention pond. According to police reports, the crash happened at 4:20am and both Robinson and an adult female passenger were "asleep/passed out" but because the officers felt they were not impaired, Robinson wouldn't be charged with a DUI and no citations would be issued.
Robinson tweeted out a statement on Monday evening.
"I just wanted to let everyone know that I was involved in a single-car accident on Saturday night, and thankfully, everyone was safe and remained unharmed."I thank God every single day for the opportunities he has presented me with and I'm grateful every morning to wake up healthy. "I should not have been driving that late or when I was that tired, but again, I'm just glad that everyone was safe. God Bless."
Robinson is in his fourth year with the Jaguars. He has 914 career rushing yards, 288 career receiving yards, and five touchdowns.
