There has been a lot of buzz around town because the Jacksonville Jaguars started their 2016 training camp last week, but the dirty little secret is everything really begins on Tuesday. The Jaguars will practice for the first time in full pads on Tuesday morning and that's when the real fun begins. The previous practices were just a warm up to what's coming on Tuesday and now we can really get an idea of what some guys are bringing to the table and who will join the "Boys of Summer" club and disappear.
You can't really tell a whole lot in non-contact non-padded practices, but you can see speed and athleticism. Both are things the Jaguars have improved upon as a team, dramatically, and both showed up during the first few days of training camp. You could see some of the edge rushers beating the offensive tackles around the edge, as they should when the lineman can't really fully engage. You've seen some of the younger interior guys, like Sheldon Day (my guy), be disruptive with their quickness of the snap.
But, now it begins for real. Everyone will be suited up. There will be some hitting. There will be contact and you'll get an even better feel for guys like Dante Fowler, Jr., who should really shine now that he can do what he does best on the football field, be violent. It will be interesting to watch guys like Day and Yannick Ngakoue and see if they have the same success now that they can be legally held, and things of that nature.
If you only make it out to one training camp day for the Jacksonville Jaguars, make it Tuesday morning (today!). The first padded day is always the best.
If you can't make it however, don't worry. Just follow @BigCatCountry and we will have some play-by-play of the action and some vines, etc., as well as a full write up later this afternoon.
