Jaguars cut roster to 78 players, release Demetrius McCray

Reinhold Matay-USA TODAY Sports

The Jacksonville Jaguars have trimmed their roster to 78 players on Monday afternoon, still needed to release three more players to reach the deadline on Tuesday afternoon to cut to 75 players. The team announced the following roster moves in a press release:

Waived:

LB Joplo Bartu, WR Shaq Evans, K Sam Ficken, CB Mike Hilton, RB Cameron Marshall, CB Demetrius McCray, P Ryan Quigley and WR Jamal Robinson

Placed on IR:

OL Jeff Linkenbach (concussion)

PUP: (can return to practice any time between Week 6 and Week 11)

OL Luke Bowanko (hip), DL Jonathan Woodard (achilles)

Waived/injured:

S Earl Wolff (hamstring)

None of the moves are really all that shocking, though it was a little surprising to see Demetrius McCray in the first wave of cuts. It was a long shot he'd make the roster, but he did have a rough go of it in Sunday's game. McCray quickly went from one of the better corners on the roster, filling in nicely as a starter to a player who couldn't see the field in a very short period of time.
