Chip Kelly was interviewed by Jaguars, per report

Did the Jacksonville Jaguars actually have seven interviews for head coach?

Now that Doug Marrone has been announced as head coach, and Tom Coughlin as EVP of football ops, it seemed that most of the news surrounding the Jaguars would be regarding them filling out their coaching staff. However, an interesting report from Adam Schefter has emerged with new details surrounding the Jags head coaching search.

Wow! This is certainly some interesting news. It makes sense that the Jaguars would want to interview Chip Kelly, if nothing else just to make sure they had done their due diligence. Throw in the fact that Kelly has head coaching experience, and it’s easy to see why the Jags would want to interview him, even if his stint in Philadelphia wasn’t so great. It’s hard to blame Kelly for the 49ers woes this year, considering they also just fired their GM and just generally don't have a lot of talent there.

Aside from Kelly being a polarizing figure, what makes the interview interesting is that this is the first we’ve heard of it. It’s true that the Jaguars were pretty tight-lipped about their search at the time, but it seemed they had since opened up about the details and the timeline of it. However, no mention of Kelly had been made until now, which begs the question: why?

Could it be possible that the Jaguars are still considering bringing in Kelly, but as offensive coordinator instead of head coach? It’s been widely assumed that Nate Hackett would retain that post, but since we haven't heard anything official on that end yet, it makes sense to speculate that the team could be interviewing other candidates. Could Chip Kelly be the guy?
