Another day, another Jacksonville Jaguars mock draft. But unlike Mel Kiper, Jr. and his prediction that we go safety in the first round, the latest from Dan Kadar at MockingTheDraft.com has Tom Coughlin pulling the trigger on the best defensive lineman in the draft not named Myles Garrett.
4. Jacksonville Jaguars: Jonathan Allen, DT/DE, Alabama
The Jaguars have a situation up front on defense that is worth monitoring over the next several weeks. Sen’Derrick Marks may not be back, and after a breakout season Abry Jones could look to cash in with a new contract. If both players are gone, Jacksonville could target a player like Allen who is as pro ready as anyone in the draft this year.
The defensive line (outside of the edge rush) is stacked in Jacksonville. Malik Jackson was a home run of a free agent signing, Abry Jones filled in better than expected for an injured Roy Miller, Sheldon Day flashed when given snaps, and Sen’Derrick Marks, while good, is expendable.
Pick Allen, grab an edge rusher (or two) in free agency, and there are no more excuses.
