As the NFL regular season has come to an end, the awards have started to roll out. Although most of the Jacksonville Jaguars’ roster shouldn’t be considered for any type of award for their play, two rookies caught Mel Kiper Jr. of ESPN’s eye.
Kiper released his “All-Rookie Team” for the 2016 season, and Jaguars rookie cornerback Jalen Ramsey and rookie defensive end Yannick Ngakoue made the cut.
Ramsey finished the season with 65 tackles, 14 defended passes, two interceptions including a pick-six, and a forced fumble. He is in contention for NFL Defensive Rookie of the year.
Meanwhile, Ngakoue was a surprise to most during his rookie year, as he was a 3rd round project draft pick. He broke the Jaguars’ regular season rookie sack record in recording eight sacks, to go with four forced fumbles, two batted passes, and an interception.
Kiper Jr. praised both players before the 2016 draft, calling Ramsey “The second best player in the draft”, as well as stating Ngakoue would be a “bargain” 2nd-3rd round player, considering the talent that the 2016 NFL Draft had to offer along the defensive line.
The future of this team is shady, due to the awful 3-13 2016 season that just finished up, but if there is any light in these dark times for the Jaguars, it shines bright from Jalen Ramsey and Yannick Ngakoue.
