The Jacksonville Jaguars currently sit at 3-2 and in sole position of first place in the AFC South. The rest of the division sits at 2-3 and have a slew of problems. The Houston Texans lost their two best defensive players and are starting a rookie. The Indianapolis Colts are still without Andrew Luck and the Tennessee Titans have a banged up Marcus Mariota.
On the surface it would seem that the Jaguars are the overwhelming favorites to win the AFC South and ESPN’s Football Power Index agrees.
According to the FPI the Jaguars have a 65.9 percent chance of winning the division and an 82.4 percent chance of making the playoffs. The next best percent to win the AFC South sits with the Titans how just narrowly edge out the Texans at 17.3 percent and 16.5 percent, respectively.
As I wrote about the Monday folloring the Jaguars 30-9 win against the Pittsburgh Steelers, after Sunday’s matchup with the Los Angeles Rams, the Jaguars schedule opens up and their opponents combined 19-36, so it should not be unreasonable to expect the Jaguars win win at least six of their remaining 11 games.
