Jags Secondary Getting a Little Deeper

Calvin Pryor is a 25 year old safety who was selected 18th overall in 2014 by the New York Jets. He played in 43 games starting 37 of those contests. The Louisville product recorded 191 tackles with a half sack, two interceptions and two forced fumbles while in New York.

When Todd Bowles took over head coaching duties for the Jets Pryor fell down the depth chart due to his inconsistency and was ultimately traded to the Cleveland Browns for speedy linebacker Demario Davis. After fighting with a teammate Pryor was released and claimed by Jacksonville.

Pryor still posses some upside and doesn’t shy away from contact. Former Jets head coach Rex Ryan referred to Pryor as an "enforcer" which explains why the defensive minded coach passed on the likes of wide receiver Brandon Cooks and quarterback Derek Carr to draft the young safety.

While Pryor won’t start any games unless Tashaun Gipson or Barry Church get hurt, he does provide more depth to the NFL’s best passing defense while also providing a presence on special teams.

It was only 10 days in to his Jacksonville career when Pryor was put on Injured Reserve with the designation to return. Now that the safety has returned to practice the earliest Pryor can return is week 11 at the Cleveland Browns, the team that released him. You have to love the soap opera that is the NFL.
