Jaguars dominate Bengals in 23-7 win

The Jacksonville Jaguars are tied for the division lead, and football is fun again! The Cincinnati Bengals came into to town hoping to climb back to .500, while the Jaguars looked to win consecutive games for the first time this season.

The first drive started off well for the Jaguars, moving the ball into Bengals territory. It would not end on the terms they wanted, and T.J. Yeldon was stripped by Chris Smith, as the Bengals recovered the ball on their own 25-yard line.

After a three and out for the Bengals, the Jaguars put their first points on the board, this one in field goal form, with Josh Lambo making the 32-yard field goal. This gave the Jaguars a 3-0 lead.

On their next offensive drive, the Jaguars put together one their better drives in the last few years. Blake Bortles lead the team down the field for a 96 yard drive, in which they converted on 3rd down 4 times on the drive. Marqise Lee capped off the drive with a three-yard slant for a touchdown. Lambo nailed the extra point, extending the Jaguars lead to 10-0.

The Bengals offense finally showed life on their next drive, though it came in a bit of a fluky fashion. Andy Dalton threw a 59-yard pass to tight end Tyler Kroft, who benefited from two Jaguars players colliding into each other while trying to tackle him, resulting in an open field for Kroft to break the big play. Joe Mixon ran it in for a seven-yard touchdown, cutting the lead to 10-7.

The Jaguars added on some points before the half, this one an impressive 56 yard field goal from Lambo, extending their lead to 13-7.

Then chaos ensued.

After a one-yard run by Mixon, A.J. Green and Jalen Ramsey got into a major fight. Ramsey pushed Green while the play was still going, which apparently Green did not take lightly. Green put Ramsey in a choke hold from behind, threw him to the ground, then proceed to punch him in the helmet.

I always never get that, the helmet always wins.

Both Green and Ramsey were ejected from the game, while tempers from both teams flared throughout the rest of the game.

After another impressive drive from the defense forcing the Bengals to punt, the Jaguars took the ball for the first time in the second half and drove down the field. The offense got into the red-zone, all the way to the eight-yard line on fourth down. Coach Doug Marrone decided to go conservative and kick the field goal, as Lambo hit a 25-yard kick. This upped the score at 16-7.

But the Jaguars needed another score to really put the Bengals in a somewhat desperate place. The Jaguars got what they wanted, with Jaydon Mickens returning punt 63 yards for a touchdown, as Everbank Field exploded. Lambo made the extra point, and the Jaguars lead extended to 23-7.

The game ended at the score of 23-7, as the Jaguars moved on to 5-3 on the season.

The Jaguars host the Los Angeles Chargers next weekend in Everbank Field.
