After beating the Houston Texans today, the Jacksonville Jaguars have an easy path to winning the AFC South next week — either beat the San Francisco 49ers or hope the Los Angeles Rams beat the Tennessee Titans. If either of those things happen, this team will win its first AFC South division title ever.
This team won multiple AFC Central division titles in the 1990’s, but when the conferences realigned, the Jaguars were put with the Indianapolis Colts who dominated the division early on, winning seven of the first nine titles. Since then it’s been the Texans winning often, taking the title four of the next six years.
The 49ers game could very well be a trap game, however. Blake Bortles has played out of his mind recently, putting up All-Pro caliber numbers in the last three weeks. But a trip out west to play a team led by a very good quarterback in Jimmy Garoppolo is going to be tough.
Nevertheless, a Rams win next week over the Titans does the job for us anyway.
Win and we have the division and no less than a No. 3 seed. Lose and we have to hope the Rams do their job against the Titans. Or else it’s a showdown in Week 17 to see who wins the division.
