The Jacksonville Jaguars are hosting a playoff game for the first time in 18 years (I can’t believe I get to type that) as they are locked into the No. 3 seed in the AFC playoff race. No matter what happens in Week 17, they’re playing the No. 6 seed at EverBank Field in the AFC Wild Card round.
But who will it be?
There are four possibilities who all hold their own special scenarios. In short, there are three games (outside of the Jaguars game) to pay attention to:
Los Angeles Chargers vs. Oakland Raiders
Buffalo Bills vs. Miami Dolphins
Baltimore Ravens vs. Cincinnati Bengals
And depending on how each of those games go, you’ll see a different opponent against the Jaguars in the playoffs. Let’s break it down here.
Tennessee Titans
If the Jaguars win, the only way the Titans make the playoffs (and play the Jaguars) is if the Bills and Chargers both lose.
If the Titans win, they would need the Ravens to beat the Bengals to play the Jaguars.
Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers and Jaguars both have to win for the Chargers to have a chance to make the playoffs. If either lose, they miss the playoffs no matter what else happens.
If they both win and the Dolphins beat the Bills or the Ravens beat the Bengals, they’ll be visiting the Jaguars in the Wild Card round.
Buffalo Bills
If the Jaguars beat the Titans...
The Bills would play the Jaguars if the Raiders beat the Chargers, Bills beat the Dolphins, and Ravens beat the Bengals.
If the Jaguars lose to the Titans...
The Bengals beat the Ravens and Bills beat the Dolphins.
Baltimore Ravens
If the Jaguars beat the Titans...
The Ravens would play the Jaguars if the Bills beat the Dolphins and Bengals beat the Ravens.
If the Jaguars lose to the Titans...
The Bengals beat the Ravens and Dolphins beat the Bills.
