The Jacksonville Jaguars reportedly worked with backup quarterback Chad Henne to restructure his contract ahead of the start of the league year next month, according to Ryan O’Halloran of the Florida Times-Union.

But if you start thinking that restructuring Henne’s contract means the Jaguars are doubling down on Blake Bortles, think again. Henne’s new contract doesn’t guarantee he’ll be the No. 2 quarterback next year or even with the team.
O’Halloran gives some thoughts as to why Henne restructuring is a little non-consequential to this year’s quarterback situation.
Thinkin' out loud on Henne sticking ...

1. Won't be penalizing if they decide to cut him after camp.
2. If Brandon Allen wins the back-up job, Henne could be a No. 3-stick-around-guy

3. Jags basically acknowledging it would've been impossible to convince a veteran QB better than Henne to sign here.

4. As for drafting a QB on Day 3, they could always do that, but do Jaguars want to have depth chart of Bortles-Allen-rookie in Week 1?

5. Back in 2014, Jason Babin re-structured his contract about this time of year and he was cut during mini-camp.

As you can see, it’s a bit of non-news for Henne to be restructuring his contract as it doesn’t affect how they see any of their quarterbacks or how they view the quarterback crop in this year’s draft. Really the only thing it telegraphs is how they view this year’s free agent quarterback crop.
