Tom Coughlin non-committal on Blake Bortles being the Jacksonville Jaguars starting quarterback in 2017 - CBSSports.com
If Tom Coughlin is excited about the fact that Blake Bortles is Jacksonville’s starting quarterback, he definitely has an odd way of showing it. During a news conference Friday, Coughlin was asked directly if he was “committed to [Bortles] as the starter,” and let’s just say he didn’t answer with a resounding yes. “Well, there’s plenty of work for everybody to do, Blake included,” Coughlin said, via the Jaguars’ official website. “To raise the game to a higher level, it takes all components, though, as well. ... People being in the right place at the right time, the timing, taking care of the football, which is paramount to that position.”
What guards are available to the Jacksonville Jaguars in free agency? - BigCatCountry.com
With former first round pick Luke Joeckel likely hitting free agency this year, the Jacksonville Jaguars are going to be in the market for a new guard. Never mind the fact that nearly half of you think Brandon Linder should move back to guard after a successful year at center. That’s not going to happen, by the way. So, who’s available for the Jaguars to spend big on and bring in to plus in that crucial left guard spot?
Jacksonville Jaguars should focus on offensive line and edge rusher at 2017 NFL Combine - ESPN.com
Offensive line is the Jaguars’ top priority this offseason, and they are expected to address it in free agency and the draft. Both guard spots need upgrades, and it also wouldn’t hurt to add another tackle to push Jermey Parnell. Beefing up the edge rush is a priority, too. The Jaguars seem to have hit on defensive end Yannick Ngakoue, but there are still questions about defensive end Dante Fowler. Opponents don’t have to do anything special to combat the Jaguars’ pass rush, and that has to change. The defense hasn’t had a player reach double digits in sacks since Bobby McCray in 2007. The Jaguars also need a safety to complement Tashaun Gipson, more bodies at linebacker (middle linebacker Paul Posluszny turns 33 in October) and a pass-catching tight end who can create mismatches.
