Jacksonville Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell sat in with Jaguars Today on 1010XL to talk about the NFL Combine, free agency and the NFL Draft coming up on Monday morning. One of the topics that came up was the team's decision to not pick up the option on left tackle Kelvin Beachum's contract and in turn trading for left tackle Branden Albert.
Caldwell indicated that one did not influence the other and it was more of a coincidence that the team decided not to pick up Beachum's option and Albert became available. Caldwell also indicated not to rule out a return to the Jaguars for Beachum on a different contract, as he seemed to infer that the team was looking to re-do Beachum's deal regardless of if Albert came available or not.
Caldwell also left the door open for players like AJ Cann and Brandon Linder to move around on the offensive line if it became necessary with who the team brings in in free agency or the NFL Draft, though he did also seem to indicate that the team was happy with how the right side of the offensive line, including veteran Jermey Parnell, was setup going forward.
