Jason Pierre-Paul getting franchise tag?

The Jags may have to solely rely on the draft to improve their pass rush.

You guys remember that conversation we had earlier about who your top pick would be for the Jaguars to sign as a free agent?

We might want to revisit that.

Multiple reports are coming out that the New York Giants are placing the franchise tag on Jason Pierre-Paul, essentially ending him becoming a free agent.

Welp. After reports from earlier in the day that the Los Angeles Chargers could be tagging Melvin Ingram, many Jags fans turned their sights solely to Pierre-Paul, but it looks like that will not be an option available to them either. It sounds like the Giants didn’t really want to use the tag on JPP, but they got the sense that other teams would be closing in on him, and decided they couldn't risk losing him.

This leaves the Jaguars in a bit of a pickle when it comes to addressing their pass rush. The team needs someone to play opposite of Yannick Ngakoue, and ideally, that would have been a veteran guy signed in free agency. When you look over the available names...well, let’s just say it isn't exactly an overwhelming list.

Yikes. It seems pretty obvious how the Jaguars should attack the offseason now. This draft class is very deep for pass rushers, and there are some elite level prospects at the top of it. The Jags should take a defensive lineman with the 4th overall pick, and address positions like guard, corner, and safety in free agency.
