Jaguars release Roy Miller

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The Jacksonville Jaguars have released veteran defensive tackle Roy Miller, according to multiple reports. The move should not come as a surprise to most fans, as it seemed the writing was on the wall for Miller after his Achilles injury during the season in 2016.

Miller, 29, was replaced by Abry Jones mid-season and it did not appear that the team missed his presence, even getting a little more out of the position with the younger, more athletic Jones playing the nosetackle position. That became even more apparently when Jones was given a new contract in the offseason and the Jaguars started being linked to other big defensive lineman.

Miller originally joined the Jaguars in free agency back in 2013 and signed a new four-year deal after the 2014 season. For his tenure in Jacksonville Miller player well, being a stout defender in the run game but it appears the Jaguars are going away from using simply just a plugger on the inside of their defensive line.
