2017 ESPN mock draft: Todd McShay thinks Jaguars pick O.J. Howard

With every mock draft that comes out, the Jacksonville Jaguars seem to be paired up with a player who will upgrade their defense. We’ve seen Jamal Adams, Malik Hooker, Jonathan Allen, Solomon Thomas, and more — but what about the offense?

In his latest mock draft, ESPN’s Todd McShay thinks the Jaguars go after Alabama tight end O.J. Howard with the No. 4 overall pick in the draft. His reasoning? The offense needs to get better around Blake Bortles.

4. Jacksonville Jaguars, 3-13

O.J. Howard, TE, Alabama

After spending big on defense two offseasons in a row, I think the Jaguars will use their first-rounder this season to improve QB Blake Bortles' supporting cast. RB Leonard Fournette is an option here, but I opted for Howard, who has had a spectacular pre-draft process, standing out during Senior Bowl practices and combine testing (4.51 40 at 251 pounds). Howard profiles as a big-play threat in the NFL and an underrated blocker.

Honestly, I don’t hate it. The offense was more at fault for the 3-13 record last year than the defense and tight end is the most glaring need on that side of the ball. Relying on a rookie at any position isn’t preferable... but Howard is a damn good football player.
