Falcons sign Dontari Poe

Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports

The Atlanta Falcons will be signing veteran defensive tackle Dontari Poe, according to reports. The former Kansas City Chiefs nosetackle had a meeting with the Indianapolis Colts over the weekend, but no contract offer was extended and then made a visit with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Poe ultimately ended up signing with the Falcons on a one-year, $8 million deal that can end up being a $10 million deal if other incentiv

Poe, 26, was originally a first round pick for the Chiefs back in 2012. He has been a cornerstone in a good Chiefs defense since his rookie year, missing just two total games through four years. While Poe plays the nosetackle position, he's viewed as someone who offers much more than just being a run stuffer and is not limited to a 3-4 front.

With the release of Roy Miller, the Jaguars have no other nosetackle type player on the roster outside of newly re-signed Abry Jones, so it makes sense why the team would be interested in someone like Poe, who was willing to sign somewhere on a "prove it" type deal.
