Jaguars chasing Calais Campbell?

Could the Jags land a veteran pass rusher after all?

NFL: Arizona Cardinals at Los Angeles Rams Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

We’re now on the eve of the ‘legal tampering’ period of free agency, and I for one couldn't be happier. The rumors continue to fly in, and the latest one is something that will probably have a lot of Jaguars fans excited if it comes to fruition. Mike Klis, who covers the Broncos for 9 News, reports that the Jags are hot on the Calais Campbell trail.

Campbell has played his entire career for the Arizona Cardinals, after being drafted there in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft. While his age might give some pause (he’ll turn 31 just before the season starts), Campbell’s game is one that ages well. He is a true professional who takes good care of his body, and he relies on technique and length(6’8”, 280lbs) more so than athleticism that can wane with time. A lot of people have questioned if Campbell could play in a 4-3, but obviously the Jaguars feel that he will fit in just fine.

If the Jags are able to add Campbell, it would give them the veteran pass rusher that many thought they would miss out on, after guys like Jason Pierre-Paul and Melvin Ingram were franchise tagged. Campbell has career totals of 501 tackles, 56.5 sacks, 42 passes defended, 8 forced fumbles, 3 interceptions, and 1 defensive touchdown. He has been voted as a Pro Bowler twice (2014, 2015), as well as a 2nd team All Pro twice (2014, 2016).
