2017 Jaguars NFL Draft results: Blair Brown picked by Jacksonville

Jesse Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

The Jacksonville Jaguars have selected Blair Brown in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. The team went back to the defensive side of the ball after picking a wide receiver in round four and added another body to the linebacking group. Brown made the All-MAC team as a first teamer for the 2016 season.

At 5-foot-11 and 238-pounds, the Jaguars will likely cross-train Brown at all three linebacker positions as well as expect him to contribute on special teams. Brown is a run and chase linebacker who is at his best playing down hill and is decent in coverage, but can struggle in man coverage.

The Jaguars next pick isn't until the seventh round, where they hold two picks thanks to the Julius Thomas trade. The Jaguars traded their sixth-round pick when the team traded up in the second round to select offensive tackle Cam Robinson. There was a short run on tight ends between the Jaguars picks, which makes me wonder if they potentially had one on their radar.
