Marquez Williams signs rookie contract with Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed seventh-round draft pick Marquez Williams to his rookie contract. Williams was chosen with the 240th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft last month.

Contract details weren’t released but Williams’ earnings should be close to the 240th overall selection last year: Phildelphia Eagles linebacker Alex McCalister.

McCalister signed a 4 year, $2,411,366 contract with the Eagles, including a $71,366 signing bonus, $71,366 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $602,842.

Williams was almost exclusively a lead blocker for the Hurricanes, but he was used some in the passing game. Even with the signing of a fullback late in free agency, it’s not a surprise that the Jaguars decided to still look for a lead blocker to support No. 4 overall pick Leonard Fournette.

At his Pro Day, Williams measured in at 5-foot-11-inches and 259-pounds, running a 4.73 40-yard dash. Williams is huge, playing at 280 pounds during his final season at Miami, but he does have some athleticism that isn’t too common at the position.
