Blake Bortles appeared on the Pardon My Take podcast today, where he had an interesting quote about his fifth year option being picked up by the team.
PMT: “Hey Blake, can we borrow some money?”
BB: “Yeah, of course. I mean, that’s money that I will probably never see, I think it’s for like 2018. But uh, yeah.”
PMT: “Are you saying that the world is gonna end before 2018?”
BB: “I think there’s a chance that it could. Either that, or something else could happen.”
Look, this is pretty obviously said in jest, but it will still raise a few eyebrows around the NFL. Either Bortles thinks he won’t be on the team in 2018, or he feels comfortable joking about it, and either scenario will tend to give fans and media some pause. This is really probably not an issue at all, but it’s not likely to sit well with some people.
Bortles went on to mention that he is currently at his house in Jacksonville, as the players need to be there for OTAs and ‘all of that fun stuff’. He was then asked how he felt about Leonard Fournette, who he said he likes, but hasn't had a chance to meet yet. He said that Fournette would help him out a ton, being a big guy to hand the ball off to. Bortles also joked that he was happy there was another bald guy in the building.
