Jaguars issue statement on Dante Fowler arrest

NFL: Preseason-Cincinnati Bengals at Jacksonville Jaguars Logan Bowles-USA TODAY Sports

The Jacksonville Jaguars have released an official statement concerning the arrest of Dante Fowler, Jr. on Tuesday afternoon for misdemeanor battery and mischief.

Statement from the team:

The Jaguars are aware of the situation involving defensive end Dante Fowler, Jr. and are currently gathering more information. The team has been in communication with Dante. No further comment will be made at this time.

It’s a pretty standard initial statement from the team and I don’t expect more to come from the situation, from the team, until the coaches meet with the media next week for training camp.

According to the official police report which has been obtained by Big Cat Country and others, Fowler was driving in an apartment complex at about 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 18, when a man walking in the complex made a comment about Fowler's driving. Fowler got out of his car, had a verbal exchange with the man and the hit the man, knocking off his glasses and stepped on them. Fowler then took the man’s grocery bag and threw it in a lake.

The victim was not injured and did not claim injury, but an independent witness corroborated the victim’s account of the situation. Fowler was arrested with out incident and booked for simple battery and criminal mischief, both misdemeanor charges.

Fowler was released early Wednesday morning on bond.
