Top 25 Jacksonville Jaguars plays of 2016: Telvin Smith’s interception vs. Texans

New, comments

In at No. 22 is a gift of an interception for Telvin Smith.

Telvin Smith had a very good season for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2016, totaling 118 tackles, a sack, two interceptions, and eight defended passes.

Heading into the season, everyone knew at how well he defended the run and was able to shoot gaps with ease (totaling 22 tackles for loss in 2014 and 2015, and adding 14 this year), but he significantly improved on his ability to defend the pass, as seen by his two interceptions and eight defended passes.

The first of those interceptions came against the Houston Texans in Week 15 when Brock Osweiler threw his second pick in a game that got him benched for Tom Savage and eventually traded away in a cost-cutting move to the Cleveland Browns this offseason.

Smith has established himself as one of the best outside linebackers in the NFL and this pick, while a badly thrown ball, shows his athleticism and coverage ability.
