Jacksonville Jaguars 2017 NFL training camp is right around the corner, so that means we can start going position by position looking at the roster and who will make the final 53-man. We’re going to look at who we think is safe at each position, which means the chances of being cut are very slim and would be a big surprise. We’ll also point out who we think are on the bubble, which means it’s a player that is going to need to impress and show their value during camp and the preseason.
Next up, wide receivers.
Who is safe: Allen Robinson, Marqise Lee, Allen Hurns, Dede Westbrook
I don’t think the list of who is “safe” at the receiver position should really be much of a surprise. You have the trio of Robinson, Hurns and Lee that will play the majority of snaps at the position. You’ve then got the draft pick in Westbrook who will get at least his rookie season, so he’s in no real danger of being cut. I think this is pretty cut and dry, no pun intended.
Who is on the bubble: Arrelious Benn, Rashad Greene, Amba Etta-Tawo, Keelan Cole, Larry Pinkard, Jamal Robinson, Kenneth Walker, Shane Wynn
As for who is on the bubble, I think this is a very interesting battle and there is still the question of if the Jaguars will keep five or six receivers on the final roster. I would think that Benn has the leg up because of his special teams ability. I bordered on putting him as safe and the real competition simply being if they decided to keep six, but for the sake of argument we’ll only peg four as safe. I think for a sixth receiver to make it, someone like Greene is going to have to show his value on special teams. Someone like Etta-Tawo is going to either have to show he can play specials or he just plays too well during the preseason to stash on the practice squad.
