With just 41 days until kickoff, let’s talk about when the Jacksonville Jaguars (almost) thought they had the answer to their free safety question back after the 2015 season was finished — No. 41 Nick Marshall.
Give him a chance to compete
The Jaguars signed former Auburn quarterback Nick Marshall as an undrafted free agent in the 2015 offseason with the intention of grooming him to play the cornerback position. Marshall previously played corner before transferring to Auburn, but it was his work and performance in the Senior Bowl practices that the Jaguars ran that put him on their radar.
Shortly after the 2015 season, general manager Dave Caldwell noted that Marshall looked a lot better than some of the natural cornerbacks on the team and that he was going to give the former quarterback a chance to compete for the starting job.
And then we signed Tashaun Gipson and Marshall was cut and he was on the New York Jets before testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs which meant a quick release a couple of days later.
Gone but not forgotten! Best of luck, Nick.
