Blake Bortles leaves Jaguars locker room, avoiding media

NFL: Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Jacksonville Jaguars Reinhold Matay-USA TODAY Sports

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles ducked out of the team’s locker room following Thursday’s preseason loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, avoiding the media according to multiple reporters.

Bortles needed a strong showing on Thursday evening to counteract some of the noise surrounding the hold on his position as the team’s starting quarterback and he did nothing but throw more gasoline on the fire with his play on the field.

Bortles led four scoreless drives on Thursday, and while his stats don’t look too bad (8 of 13 for 65 yards), he missed badly on some throws down the field to a wide open Allen Robinson and was nearly intercepted multiple times.

It’s hard to imagine the Jaguars not opening up the competition at the position after Thursday’s showing and the inconsistent training camp the former No. 3 overall pick has had and ducking the media after another poor showing isn’t going to do him any favors.

Update:

Bortles is now heading back to the locker room to talk about the quarterback job being opened up.
