With just 17 days until kickoff, let’s talk about No. 17 on the Jacksonville Jaguars and ask the question: Will Arrelious Benn make this team’s final 53?
“Gets to his feet! He wasn’t touched! Benn takes it in!”
Sometimes, the Jacksonville Jaguars will do something so inexplicable, so unbelievable (good or bad) that you have to see it to believe it.
Arrelious Benn’s game-winning touchdown against the Chicago Bears was one such moment in 2016.
In the Jaguars’ Week 6 victory over the Bears, Benn caught the game-winning 51-yard score with 2:58 remaining in the fourth quarter. It marked Benn’s first touchdown since December 24, 2011 (1,819 days), when he was a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The 1,819 days between touchdown catches is the longest span between touchdowns for a receiver since Kassim Osgood went 2,100 days between scores from December 12, 2004 to September 12, 2010.
In his 52-game NFL career, Benn has caught 64 passes for 978 yards (15.3 average) and six touchdowns. Last year alone, Benn played in 15 games and had five catches for 116 yards and one touchdown.
But this catch was definitely his most memorable of the entire season.
So what do you think? Will Benn make this year’s roster? The top four spots seem pretty locked up with Allen Robinson, Allen Hurns, Marqise Lee, and Dede Westbrook. Rashad Green could be a surprise cut, but Shane Wynn and Keelan Cole have both impressed in training camp and preseason.
