In a bit of a shocking move, the Jacksonville Jaguars have named Blake Bortles their starting quarterback for Week 1 of the 2017 season, per reports.
After losing his job security over a week ago, Chad Henne started against the Carolina Panthers on Thursday. While Henne wasn't impressive by any means, he looked like the better quarterback of the two, completing throws with a quicker release and more accurately.
Considering Bortles has had a bad preseason so far, continuing to struggle with accuracy issues and his decision making, it's puzzling to see the team start him, taking the risk of him getting hurt and his $19 million fifth year option becoming guaranteed.
Neither Bortles or Henne are likely the long term answer for this team, but the Jaguars are rolling the dice on their 2014 3rd overall pick and hope he suddenly changes and stops turning the ball over.
