Jaguars release first (unofficial) depth chart for 2017 season

NFL: Jacksonville Jaguars-Training Camp Reinhold Matay-USA TODAY Sports

The Jacksonville Jaguars have released their first (unofficial) depth chart and for the most part it’s unsurprising. But there are a couple of nuggets in here that are interesting to say the least.

What does this 90-man roster look like as we head into tonight’s practice at EverBank Field?

Offense

Wide receiver: Allen Robinson, Arrelious Benn, Rashad Greene, Dede Westbrook, Kenneth Walker.

Left tackle: Cam Robinson/Josh Wells, Malcolm Bunche.

Left guard: Patrick Omameh, Tyler Shatley, Chris Reed.

Center: Brandon Linder, Luke Bowanko, Demetrius Rhaney.

Right guard: A.J. Cann, Earl Watford, Nila Kasitati.

Right tackle: Jermey Parnell, Jeremiah Poutasi, Avery Gennessy.

Tight end: Marcedes Lewis, Ben Koyack, Mychal Rivera, Alex Ellis, Neal Sterling, Caleb Blueitt.

Wide receiver: Marqise Lee, Allen Hurns, Jamal Robinson, Shane Wynn, Larry Pinkard, Amba Etta-Tawo, Keelan Cole.

Quarterback: Blake Bortles, Chad Henne, Brandon Allen.

Running back: Leonard Fournette/Chris Ivory/T.J. Yeldon, Corey Grant, Tim Cook, Tyler Gaffney.

Fullback: Tommy Bohanon, Marquez Williams.

Ben Koyack as the second-string tight end is the most surprising thing about the offense. I’m curious as to why Mychal Rivera isn’t the guy. Arrelious Benn as the backup to Allen Robinson is also curious, but if he’s healthy he’s the best guy to back us up on the outside.

Defense

Defensive end: Yannick Ngakoue, Dante Fowler Jr., Lerentee McCray, Dawuane Smoot, Carroll Phillips.

Nose tackle: Abry Jones, Stefan Charles, Kevin Maurice.

Defensive tackle: Malik Jackson, Michael Bennett, Sheldon Day, Tueni Lupeamanu.

Defensive end: Calais Campbell, Malachiah Goodman, Jonathan Woodard, Hunter Dimick.

Weakside linebacker: Telvin Smith, Josh McNary, Blair Brown.

Middle linebacker: Myles Jack, Hayes Pullard III, P.J. Davis.

Strong-side linebacker: Paul Posluszny, Audie Cole, Justin Horton.

Cornerback: Jalen Ramsey, Aaron Colvin, Tyler Patmon, Doran Grant, Ezra Robinson, Stanley Jean-Baptiste.

Free safety: Tashaun Gipson, Peyton Thompson, Tracy Howard.

Strong safety: Barry Church, Jarrod Wilson, Jarrod Harper, James Sample.

Cornerback: A.J. Bouye, Josh Johnson, Jalen Myrick, Brian Dixon, Charles Gaines.

Lerentee McCray was an outside linebacker before coming to Jacksonville, so it’ll be interesting to see how the Jaguars use him at defensive end and if he’ll do well with that change. James Sample is way down this depth chart.

Special teams

Punter: Brad Nortman.

Kicker: Jason Myers.

Long snapper: Matt Overton.

Kickoff returner: Marqise Lee, Corey Grant, Dede Westbrook.

Punt returner: Rashad Greene, Dede Westbrook.

It’s a bit surprising that they’re not even giving Caleb Blueitt a chance at long snapper, but I guess the best option is to pick a guy and stick with him. And Rashad Greene is apparently getting every chance by this coaching staff to stick around as a return man. Calais Campbell is playing opposite Yannick Ngakoue at defensive end, folks. Get used to it.
