If you want an honest answer about a quarterback, all you have to do is ask Jalen Ramsey.
After the Jacksonville Jaguars embarrassed the Houston Texans by a score of 29-7 at NRG Stadium, Ramsey was asked about Tom Savage being benched at halftime and rookie Deshaun Watson coming in during the second half.
“Come on, man,” Ramsey said of the quarterback switch, according to CBS Houston. “Deshaun should have been starting the whole — come on now.”
At halftime, Texans head coach looked at Savage’s seven completions for just 62 yards and said it was time to roll with the rookie.
“They got one Savage over there,” Ramsey said. “We got a whole bunch of ‘em, we got a bunch of Savages over here.”
It was a really confusing turn of events that Watson got in the game that quickly. Granted, the Texans offense wasn’t showing any signs of life in the first half. But if that’s all it took to bench Savage, you picked the wrong guy to start Week 1 and Ramsey is right.
The offense did do a little better under Watson. They scored a touchdown (albeit after a questionable “roughing the passer” penalty on Yannick Ngakoue) and moved the ball down the field a little better, but the Jaguars defense still dominated.
“Personally, I think [Watson] gives them a better chance,” Ramsey said. “He came in and gave them a new dynamic, did very well when he was in, managed the offense, [and scored] on that first drive.”
