The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed first-year wide receiver Max McCaffery to the active roster from the New Orleans Saints’ practice squad. To make room on the roster, the club placed fourth-year wide receiver Allen Robinson on the team’s reserve/injured list.
McCaffery has previously spent time with the Oakland Raiders and Green Bay Packers after going undrafted in 2016. McCaffery was originally signed by Oakland as an undrafted rookie free agent on April 30, 2016, and was released on August 29, 2016. McCaffery then signed with Green Bay’s practice squad and was promoted to the active roster prior to the NFC Championship Game against the Falcons, but did not play. McCaffery was waived by the Packers shortly after the preseason finale during roster reductions and signed to the Saints’ practice squad the next day.
McCaffery appeared in 53 games with 38 starts during a four-year career at Duke. During his collegiate career, McCaffery caught 117 career passes for 1,341 yards and 12 touchdowns. He is the son of former NFL wide receiver Ed McCaffery, and his brother, Christian, is a rookie running back for the Carolina Panthers.
The Jaguars currently have 53 players on their active roster.
