It is a bit of a surprise move, as Bowanko had been one of the better depth offensive lineman for the Jaguars and they’re a team without much “good” depth on the offensive line. Bowanko also offered the Jaguars a lot of versatility as a depth player, playing both guard positions and center.
Originally drafted in the 2014 NFL Draft with the “Blaine Gabbert pick”, Bowanko quickly made his way into the starting lineup and started 14 games at center for the Jaguars. He did a fine job, but was eventually pushed aside by a rental free agent and Brandon Linder. There were many who speculated the Jaguars migth be better of starting Linder at his original guard position and rolling with Bowanko at center again, but obviously that never materialized.
