As the Jacksonville Jaguars head into their off day prior to the first real practice before taking on the Houston Texans in Week 1 of the regular season, the team still isn’t sure who will be started at left guard on the offensive line.
“We have work to see during the week and we’ll see where we are,” Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone told reporters on Monday when asked about the left guard spot. “We have two good practices coming up and Friday is a good practice for us, so it has kind of changed a little bit and see where we are going into the game.”
Previously Marrone had indicated he’d like to know the starting offensive line by Week 3 of the preseason, but less than a week out from the first real game, the position group still isn’t settled. The team has gone back and forth between Patrick Omameh, Earl Watford, Tyler Shatley and Luke Bowanko at the left guard position, but no one seems to have grabbed it.
I would tend to think Omameh is in the driver’s seat for the position and will get the start on Sunday, but I have a feeling left guard is going to be one of those positions that changes a lot as the season goes on.
