With just 1 day until kickoff, let’s discuss the one thing you’ll be judging the 2017 Jacksonville Jaguars season by.
What’s most important to you this year?
I’m an idiot and a maniac and have done all but one of this 100-part series counting down the days to when the NFL finally kicks off.
And to cap it all off, I want to know — what one thing will you be judging this year by?
How well does Blake Bortles play? That’s a big one. He’s at a crossroads. Will he step up and be the franchise quarterback that puts this roster in contention for an AFC South title? Or does he stay in relative mediocrity?
What does Leonard Fournette do for our ground game? The No. 4 overall pick looked good in limited action at the beginning of the preseason. How does he do against starters?
Will our secondary be able to carry an otherwise average defense? A.J. Bouye and Jalen Ramsey can arguably be called the best cornerback duo in the NFL. Our edge pass rush and our linebackers are average at best. Can they be good enough to make up for deficiencies elsewhere?
How does Doug Marrone handle his latest head coaching gig? Marrone was a fan favorite shortly after Tom Coughlin was hired. He was a no-nonsense guy who gave it to you straight — about how bad this team was last year, how poorly Blake Bortles played, and how much confidence he had in the run game. But after a sham of a quarterback competition and a seeming lack of direction, there are shades of Gus Bradley 2.0 on the horizon. Can he lead this team?
What about you? What’s the most important thing for you to see the Jaguars do in 2017? Let me know in the comments.
And if you kept up with this 100-part series I started because Alfie thought it would be neat, thanks.
