Jaguars nearly 10-point underdogs

NFL: AFC Divisional Playoff-Jacksonville at Pittsburgh Steelers Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The Jacksonville Jaguars head on the road in the 2018 NFL playoffs once again, this time to Foxborough to take on the New England Patriots, and once again they’ll be at least a touchdown underdog. The line for this weekend’s AFC Championship game opened up with the Patriots as 9-point favorites, which to me seemed a little low.

Not that I expect the Patriots to run up and down the field and blow the Jaguars out, but I just assumed the mystique of the Patriots at home in the playoffs would carry more betting weight to entice the public. The nine number actually feels a bit right, considering who the Jaguars are facing off against and it being on the road.

I mean, the Jaguars opened as a 7.5-point dog last week and ended up winning by three. Last week I felt pretty confident the Jaguars wouldn’t just cover, but beat the Steelers and this week I feel kind of the same way. I feel like the Jaguars matchup really well with what gives the Patriots fits, so I’m expecting a close game.
