Rex Burkhead was the Patriots player who injured Tom Brady’s hand

Tom Brady is usually off-limits during practices. Especially during the season. Especially during the postseason. Especially days leading up to the AFC Championship game.

But that didn’t stop one New England Patriots player from running helmet-first into Brady’s throwing hand, causing him to miss one practice this week entirely and part of another and earn a “questionable” designation on this week’s injury report.

Pro Football Talk is reporting that it was reserve running back Rex Burkhead, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garofolo. Burkhead reportedly ran helmet-first into Brady’s throwing hand, accidentally causing a cut that required stitches. The report says there was “blood all over the place.”

That won’t stop Brady from playing, but it will likely cause him to wear a glove on his throwing hand, something he said he hates to do in cold weather. Will it cause him to throw numerous interceptions this game? No. But he may be a little less quick or a little less accurate on passes early in the game while he gets used to the glove.
