The Jacksonville Jaguars showcased an incredibly productive defense, but the offense — which was at times in 2017 outscored by the defense — needs more weapons. A quarterback is likely a top need in free agency, as will be the offensive line, but what about the receivers, specifically tight end?
Right now, the Jaguars boast a group of tight ends that is headlined by the ageless Marcedes Lewis and a couple of productive, but ultimately underwhelming receiving guys. This team needs a marquee tight end to compete.
Dan Kadar of Mocking The Draft released his most recent mock draft and he thinks the Jaguars pick his No. 1 tight end in South Dakota State’s Dallas Goedert.
29. Jacksonville Jaguars: Dallas Goedert, TE, South Dakota State
The Jaguars’ offense would do well with a tight end who can play similar to Travis Kelce of the Chiefs or Zach Ertz of the Eagles. That could be Goedert, who provides a mismatch on the outside with his combination of size and athleticism.
Goedert would be a pick that screams “win now” for this organization and I’d love to pair him with the likes of Allen Robinson, Allen Hurns, and Dede Westbrook in this passing offense.
What do you think? Is Goedert the way to go? He’s not a popular pick among national media types but he’s a plug-and-play guy who would do well if the Jaguars do what they need to do with Blake Bortles before free agency.
