“I spoke to both quarterbacks this afternoon and told them that Blake will be our team’s starting quarterback. I believe this gives us the best opportunity to win.”
“I spoke to both quarterbacks this afternoon and told them that Blake will be our team’s starting quarterback,” head coach Doug Marrone said in a statement. “I believe this gives us the best opportunity to win.”
This comes after a players-only meeting on Monday (which Marrone said isn’t “out of the norm”) and both quarterbacks, as well as the team, being addressed beforehand.
Bortles was benched in the third quarter of last week’s 20-7 loss to the Houston Texans because of his performance for the first time in his career. This comes after a four-interception game against the Kansas City Chiefs (which included a pick-six) and a team-wide implosion on the road against the Dallas Cowboys.
Kessler went 21-for-30 for 156 yards, a touchdown, and an interception in a little less than two quarters of action.
