Jaguars to sign RB David Williams, per report

NFL: Denver Broncos-Training Camp Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

With Leonard Fournette already ruled out of the Week 6 game against the Dallas Cowboys and Corey Grant headed to season ending injured reserve with a lisfranc injury, the Jaguars will be signing Denver Broncos running back David Williams.

Jacksonville was down to just a still banged up TJ Yeldon and Brandon Wilds as the healthy running back options on the roster, so at the very least one addition to the roster was needed and it appears like they decided to pluck someone off the Broncos practice squad.

Williams was a seventh round pick of the Broncos in the 2018 NFL Draft, playing his college football at South Carolina and Arkansas. The 6’1”, 229-pound Williams only got a handful of touches in the preseason but nothing really stood out about his numbers.

From what I remember about the few times I saw Williams play at Arkansas, he was more of a between the tackles type of runner and played in a more NFL-style offense, so he should at least be somewhat familiar with pass protection, etc.

I’m not sure this will be the last move the Jaguars make at the position.
