The Jacksonville Jaguars passing game was just as bad, if not worse, than they were last week — averaging 5.2 yards per attempt and getting Bortles sacks three times while pressured a handful more.
Who was responsible for those sacks? Let’s take a look.
Sack #1: 3rd & Goal at BUF 16
(1:15 - 3rd) (Shotgun) B. Bortles sacked at BUF 24 for -8 yards (K. Williams).
Dede Westbrook is open over the middle and Blake Bortles needs to do a better job of getting the pass out sooner.
Fault: Blake Bortles
Sack #2: 3rd & 14 at JAX 26
(14:05 - 4th) (Shotgun) B. Bortles sacked at JAX 15 for -11 yards (sack split by K. Williams and J. Hughes).
Could Blake Bortles have gotten the ball out a bit sooner? Yes. Could Ereck Flowers and Chris Reed not screwed up their protection? Yes. I’m going to mark this down as a team failure, but I think Reed and Flowers are slightly more to blame.
Fault: Ereck Flowers and Chris Reed
Sack #3: 1st & 10 at BUF 12
(1:47 - 4th) (Shotgun) B. Bortles sacked at BUF 13 for -1 yards (L. Alexander).
Like the sack above it, I think Blake Bortles needs to do a better job of getting the ball out or escaping the pocket. But Ereck Flowers needs to swing his defender out wider on this protection.
Fault: Ereck Flowers.
