Doug Marrone won’t name starting quarterback for season finale vs. Texans

The Jacksonville Jaguars do not yet know who their starting quarterback will be for the season finale next week against the Houston Texans.

That’s because head coach Doug Marrone doesn’t yet know what he wants to do — Cody Kessler wasn’t benched because of injury but rather because Blake Bortles, and his mobility, was what prompted him to stay in the game and grind out a win against the Miami Dolphins yesterday.

“The question is going to be what are we doing now; but we are moving forward, and I’m not ready to answer a question of who’s going to be the quarterback moving forward,” Marrone said shortly after the game yesterday. “The reason why he was taken out of the game is because I didn’t think we could protect him back there and I thought we could get some juice with Blake going in there running the zone read, which we did.”

Regardless of who the quarterback is, I don’t think the Jaguars win. The Texans offense is too good and will put up too many points for our offense to match it.
