The Jacksonville Jaguars offense was at its worst on Sunday.
They also got a win.
That’s because the defense posted a shutout — and that’s impressive. Andrew Luck may be the only confirmed good player on that offense, but their offensive line is good. Luck has never been shut out in his NFL career. He was never shut out in college. You’d have to go back to high school to find Luck’s last goose egg.
Again I say, impressive.
But our offense? Not so much. Who was responsible for those sacks? Let’s take a look.
Sack #1: 3rd & 6 at JAX 5, 11:08 in 2Q
(Shotgun) C. Kessler sacked at JAX 3 for -2 yards (D. Autry).
I cannot blame Cody Kessler for feeling the pressure in the end zone and doing whatever it took to not take the safety. That doesn’t absolve him from not getting the ball out sooner to Dede Westbrook crossing over the middle, but it’s understandable.
Fault: Cody Kessler
Sack #2: 3rd & 3 at JAX 35, 10:08 in 3Q
(Shotgun) C. Kessler sacked at JAX 27 for -8 yards (D. Autry).
It’s his first start so he’s not as sharp, but Kessler has to get the ball out quicker. These are seven or nine routes, they’re not slow-developing plays.
Fault: Cody Kessler
Sack #3: 3rd & 3 at JAX 40, 6:46 in 4Q
(Shotgun) C.Kessler sacked at JAX 34 for -6 yards (D. Autry). FUMBLES (D. Autry) [D. Autry], and recovers at JAX 32. C.Kessler to JAX 32 for no gain (D. Autry).
A.J. Cann gets tossed aside by Denico Autry and it ain’t pretty.
Fault: A.J. Cann
Summary
This offense is not good and it’s not getting better. It’s going to be a long second half, folks.
